Example is Much More Potent Than Precepts
I'm back! With lot's of examples to talk about. Also, COFFEE!!!
Hello again. If you don’t remember, I coach leaders and teams how to improve the way they deliver value to their customers in ways that work for their business. My promise has always been to give you real world examples, not textbook advice or platitudes from an armchair quarterback.
I want to share one of the most rewarding experiences I have had putting my Kanban and Product knowledge to work.
I know the Tuesday Tidbit has been quiet for quite some time. When I started writing this blog, I was working at Ramsey Solutions and my Agile experiences were constant and impactful. But I was working for an organization that had whole heartedly embraced continuous improvement. They aren’t perfect, but I was constantly able to pull from a litany of experiences of people eager and open to coaching.
I needed a challenge. A new start. And I would get all I bargained for.
About the same time I went silent I had made the transition back to my previous employer in the banking world. Yes, the same place I had immaturely referred to as “The place manufacturing the lasers for the Death Star.” I have since changed that opinion and I will save the story for how I made it back in a future article, but suffice it to say I put my first ministry, my wife and daughter, ahead of my dream job. Little did I know it was going to present me with multiple avenues of practicing the Agile principles I had been coaching and preaching.
A New Project
One of the biggest projects I embarked on during the last two years, which will be the subject of a series of blogs over the next few Tuesdays, was the pursuit of my dream to own a Coffee Shop with my wife. The value of these stories won’t be found in the tale of delicious coffee we now serve, but the iterative, Agile approach my wife and I took to make this dream a reality. Steps you can also follow. Without debt or a trust fund.
Here’s a picture of your’s truly living in the promise…
(For clarity, the dream is for my wife and I to own our own coffee shop where people can enjoy a great cup of coffee while relaxing in a Christ-like environment. We do NOT own our own place, but we do currently manage one.)
This post is just a teaser. I wanted to announce to you all I am back and that you should look forward to some amazing stories about Kanban, Product leadership, Agile, Coaching, and how you can revolutionize the way you and your teams deliver great value to your customers in ways that work for your business.
I hope you will all join me as we dive in.
Away we go.
Tristan
Glad to see you back, Tristan! Just yesterday I was going back through some old folders in my outlook inbox and found the "TristyBits" folder from your original newsletter. It brought up lots of feelings. Lots of good feelings about how much better of a team member I am after having worked with and be coached by you. Also lots of sad feelings about how much I miss you 😢 But HOW PERFECT of timing was that?! I haven't looked at that folder in years, why yesterday? God was clearly trying to prime me for this :)
Very happy to see you back, excited to hear more about your agile product coaching and especially more about this coffee shop! I need to know more...you manage a physical coffee shop? one that I can come and patronize right now?! PLEASE tell me more I want to visit!
🤜 🤛
